Five Helpful Tips for Indie Authors ~ Red Phoenix

It has been a while since I posted something to my fellow indies. Frankly, I have been so busy I haven't had time to think straight. My own fault... (rolling eyes)

Here are five helpful tips after a year of writing:

Realistic Deadlines: Do not set yourself a deadline that seems doable but as it approaches, you realize you are way off and have to kill yourself to make the date. I have done that twice now. It makes the writing process...not so much fun.

Write, Write, Write: I do not procrastinate with my writing. I may move from story to story, but I am always writing. The more you write the better you become, it's a lovely process. I do, however, highly recommend having your work proofread. It was a mistake I made in the beginning and am now having to go back and fix.

Take Reviews with a Grain of Salt: Yes, those gut-wrenching reviews are to be expected (you can't please everyone), but not the harsh comments. Trust me on this one, if a review does not provide you with something you can build on - IGNORE it.

Support One Another: Some writers feel like they are in competition with each other. Hey, if you do well this little chick is happy for you! Your success does not harm me and if it is in the same genre, it may even help. Readers tend to look for similar work. Encourage each other.

Tell Your Own Story: Don't copy another author or jump on the bandwagon just because a topic is popular. Write the stories that long to burst forth from your own heart. Your words will resonate and reach others if you trust your unique voice and message.

More than anything, enjoy the journey.

On the Twenty-Second Day of Christmas Red Phoenix Gave to Me

A story of a girl in desperate need and the man endowed to help her...

I will admit it, there have been times when life didn't seem worth the struggle anymore. In response to that feeling, I wrote an erotic story dealing with a noble man who cares enough to step in when one girl tries to end it. Turns out he has a problem of 'epic proportions' that she was meant to resolve.

* I have kept this one free because I feel there are people who need to hear the simple message, "Hang on, don't give up. It will get better." Make fun of me if you want, but that was truly the reason I wrote the story.

Red Phoenix: reaching out to others one erotic story at a time... ;)

Excerpt from And Then He Saved Me:

“I want to make love with you, Cyril.”
“We…can’t…,” he said between kisses.
“Don’t deny me, Cyril. I need this.”
“I can’t make love, it would only hurt you.”
Her kisses traveled down his chin to his neck. “Then hurt me.” She unbuttoned his pants, unzipping them slowly. His huge shaft was already straining to get out. She leaned over and kissed it tenderly.
Cyril pulled off his clothes, freeing his massive dick from its confines. Its immense stature looked ready to conquer the world. She grasped onto it with her hand, unable to encircle it completely. “You are a big man,” she purred. Lauren wrapped her lips around the head of it and moved up and down on his shaft. It was laughable how little she could actually take into her mouth, but Cyril groaned in pleasure. She stroked him using both hands to encircle his full circumference.
“Oh, Lauren. Just keep doing that and I will come for you.”
She immediately stopped. “No, Cyril. I need to feel you inside me.
“You’re too small,” he protested.
“I’m begging you. Please, I need this.”
The worried expression on his face slowly relaxed. “If we are really going to do this, I need to get something first. Why don’t you lie on the bed.”
Lauren giggled in excitement and tiptoed over to his large bed. She quickly stripped her clothes while Cyril hunted through his top dresser drawer, cursing as he searched.
“Where the hell is it? I know I had one left.” He finally held up his hand in triumph. She noticed the foil wrapped coin between his fingers. Cyril moved towards her, his cock looking like a sword. She tingled all over as he approached.
“Scoot to the edge of the bed for me.” Lauren eagerly complied, grabbing a strand of her hair and twirling it in anticipation when she settled back on the bed. Cyril stared at her naked body with a looked of reverence. “So delicate and lovely…” he murmured, as he knelt down on the floor beside the bed.
He moved between her legs and gently kissed her mound. She gasped, twisting the hair tighter around her finger when she felt his tongue flick the inside of her wet folds. He caressed her sex lavishly with his mouth, creating a fiery ache.
“I want you, Cyril,” she moaned.
“Are you sure you’re ready?”
“I’m desperate for you.” Her body trembled, needing his impossibly large hunk of manhood inside her. She watched in anticipation as he rolled the condom over his enormous cock and moved between her legs.
Cyril spread her wet outer lips, positioning his massive head against her opening. He pushed, but her willing body resisted. “Just a minute,” he said. Leaving her on the bed, he walked into the bathroom and came back with a tube of lubricant. “This should help.” He spread it liberally over the latex and then positioned his cock against her again. “You’ll need to relax.”
She nodded her head, propping herself up so she could watch the penetration. He tried to force himself into her entrance, but couldn’t make any progress. Cyril grabbed her hips and rocked his huge shaft against her harder. She groaned when his vast head finally disappeared into her pink recesses. It stretched her more than she had ever been stretched. She loved the ache it caused. “More, Cyril. I want more.”
He grunted and pulled out a little before pushing back in. She watched in fascination as his giant rod slowly powered its way into her. At one point, Lauren threw her head back on the pillow and started panting. His cock was demanding more than her body could give. “Do you want me to stop, Baby Girl?” he murmured.
She stopped breathing when he said that name. Lauren fought back emotional tears and said with conviction, “No. Please, I want to take all of it.” He licked his lips in concentration as he repositioned her and pushed in further. “Oohhh,” she moaned, shocked her body was able to take more of him. “Make me take all of you,” she purred.
Cyril groaned as he continued to force his massive shaft into her small frame. There was nothing else but his cock, stretching and prodding deeper. It would not rest until it claimed all of her and she needed it. She started moaning loudly as his shaft expanded her opening beyond capacity. “Are you in yet?” she gasped.
“Almost, Baby.”
“Good, I can’t wait until you start fucking me with your huge cock.”
He grunted in response and lifted her ass off the bed cupping her buttocks. With a demanding thrust, he pushed the last of his shaft into her making her scream out in pleasure-pain. “Oh, that feels good. I love it!” she exclaimed, staring at the impossibly large cock between her legs. The lips of her pussy stretched to near tearing. Her clit splayed out and vulnerable. Lauren looked up at Cyril and smiled.
“Are you ready for me to start thrusting?” he growled softly.

On the Nineteenth Day of Christmas Red Phoenix Gave to Me

A journey of one couple into a Ménage à Trois...

Fans enjoyed Dan in the first Blissful story and wanted to know what happened after the cabin door opened. I decided to take Jenny, Ryan, and Dan in a different direction. One I had experienced in my own past.

Excerpt from Blissfully in Love:
(Novelette is .99 on Amazon, B&N, Apple, and Smashwords, click here)

Jenny could feel his tension and was reminded again of their first date together. What could have him so spooked? Now her curiosity was royally piqued!
When they reached the room, he took her hand and squeezed it tightly. His palm was clammy. Jenny looked into his eyes, trying to figure him out. “Whatever it is, Rye, I’m sure I will like it. You don’t have to be so worried.”
Ryan’s cheeks flushed before he kissed her. “I’m suddenly afraid you might like it too much.”
The suspense was killing her. “There is only one way to find out,” she said with a wink. Ryan slipped the card in and opened the door for her. Jenny walked through the doorway and froze.
“Hi, Jenny.” Dan stood in front of her with a crooked little grin.
She couldn’t move even though her body longed to rush into Dan’s arms. Jenny looked at Ryan apprehensively. “What’s going on?”
Nervous laughter filled the room. “I… Well, we both love you. I have been talking to Dan all week. I think I’ve figured out a way for all of us to be happy.”
She stared at him in astonishment.
Dan spoke up. “We both want to please you tonight.”
She didn’t realize she’d stopped breathing until her lungs complained. Jenny gasped for air, afraid she might faint.
Ryan put his arm around her. “Are you okay, Jen? I thought you would be happy.”
Jenny looked at him and then back to Dan. This is too much!
“I think she’s in shock, Ryan. Give her a few minutes.” Dan walked over to the desk and picked up two glasses. “I mixed some drinks for us.” He came over and handed her one. When Jenny grabbed the stem of the glass, Dan brushed his hand over hers. Her whole body tingled from the simple contact.
Dan gave the other glass to Ryan and then retrieved the last one for himself. He took a sip and smiled. “A damn good martini, if I say so myself.”
Jenny took a taste. It didn’t live up to hers. “It’ll do.”
Dan snorted. “Perfectionist.”
“Amateur.”
Ryan took his own sip. “Jenny makes a better drink.”
“Et tu, Brute?” Dan complained.
Jenny relaxed hearing the familiar banter. They had been best friends for over three years. Being together again felt good. She took another long sip and then smiled at Ryan. “Thank you.”
“You’re okay with this then?”
She smiled shyly. “What girl wouldn’t want two gorgeous men?”
Ryan cupped her chin. “I was hoping to see that smile again. I told you I loved you more than you knew.”
“I never appreciated how much.” Jenny kissed him, giggling nervously.
Dan moved closer to her and put his hand on the small of her back. She could barely breathe when she felt the warmth of his touch. “That makes two of us who love you.” He leaned down and kissed her on the lips right in front of Ryan. Her knees gave under her. Luckily, Dan had his arm around her before she collapsed and she only spilled a little of her drink.
This isn’t real…
“So, I want to lay down some ground rules first,” Ryan announced. “Jenny’s pussy is all mine. No different than when you guys were alone together.” Jenny was surprised, but wasn’t about to complain. Dan nodded his head, as if the two had already discussed it. “Also, there’s no male-to-male touching.”
Dan frowned. “Like I would want to touch any part of you.”
“I just needed to make that perfectly clear.” Ryan added with a grin, “I’ve seen the way you look at me.”
Dan snorted. “In your dreams.”
Jenny’s heart rate increased as she observed the two men ribbing each other. She was about to have sex with both of them at the same time: the two men she loved most in the world. It felt so decadent, so wrong—but oh so exciting.
Ryan started unbuttoning his shirt and tossed it to the ground. When he went to unbuckle his belt, Dan protested. “What are you doing, man?”
Ryan looked at Dan questioningly. “What?”
“Where’s the romance in just throwing clothes off?”
Ryan crinkled his brow. “We’re having sex, not a fashion show.”
“May I?” Dan asked, glancing towards Jenny. When Ryan nodded his acquiescence, he walked over to her and lifted her chin. He kissed her passionately as he unbuttoned her blouse.
Jenny’s heart beat a mile a minute as he pulled the material away and let it fall to the floor. “Beautiful and amusing,” he murmured, kissing her left shoulder while he reached around and undid her smiley face bra. It was the next thing to go. Jenny burned with embarrassment. This was the second time he’d caught her wearing the comfortable but ancient bra.
Ryan returned to her side. “I’ll do the rest.”
Dan moved to her left to give Ryan room. While he unbuttoned her jeans, Dan cupped her breast and bent down to lick her nipple. Jenny felt a gush of wetness soak her panties. The attention of both men was almost too intense.

On the Eighteenth Day of Christmas Red Phoenix Gave to Me

Two people stranded together in the snow for days...

After a snowstorm in February, I decided to play out what would happen with two friends who are forced to be alone together. One has a crush on the other and a variety of ways to show her how he truly feels...

Excerpt from Blissfully Snowbound:
(Novelette is FREE on Amazon, B&N, Apple, and Smashwords, click here)

“After last night’s kiss? No way.”
She blushed, thinking back on the experience. “It was a fluke. It’s the whole stolen kiss thing. That’s all it was.”
“Wanna prove it?”
She scoffed at him. “Yeah, right.”
“No, seriously. If we kiss and we don’t both feel something, I’ll stop hounding you. Cross my heart.” Dan made a cross motion over his heart and smiled charmingly.
“You’re pathetic, you know that?”
“I think you’re chicken because you know I’m right.”
“Don’t start with me. You know I hate being called a chicken.”
He nodded with a grin. “Yes, I do.”
Jenny rolled her eyes and walked over to Dan. Here in the daylight with no romantic fire things would be different. He tried to put his arms around her, but she stopped him. “You said nothing about hugging, mister. A kiss. That’s it.”
A smile played across his lips. “Fine.” Dan put his hands behind his back and waited.
She tried to calm the butterflies as she tiptoed up to kiss him. For a second she hesitated, afraid that he might be right—but no. She knew better and needed to prove it. Jenny gently pressed her mouth against his firm lips. He snuck a hand around and grasped the back of her neck. He slipped his tongue into her mouth and she felt fireworks go off. The desire she had felt all night instantly reignited. She unwillingly moaned and had to pull away. It was disconcerting.
Dan’s hair fell in his eyes and he brushed it back all cute-like. “Well?”
Jenny turned from him. “Didn’t feel a thing.”
He snuck up behind her and growled softly in her ear, “Yeah, I’m buying that.”
Her heart raced when she felt the warmth of his breath on her neck. “Please don’t.”
“Don’t what?” Dan asked, as he moved her hair aside and gently kissed the back of her neck.
She felt an electric jolt travel straight to her groin. “Don’t make me want you.”
Dan chuckled warmly. “But you already do.”
Jenny closed her eyes. Her body was desperate for more, but they couldn’t. It wasn’t in the cards for them. She pulled away and pretended to straighten the kitchen.
Dan let out a frustrated sigh. “Okay, you win. I’ll stop hounding you.”
She felt almost disappointed. “Good, why don’t we finish our poker game?”
“Fine,” Dan grumbled. Then he added condescendingly, “I don’t see the point. You are so behind now you don’t have a chance of catching up.”
“Oh yeah? We’ll see about that.” She dealt out the cards. In no time flat, she was out of pretzels. “How did you do that?”
“I’m on a winning streak and you’re not.”
Jenny pouted. She hated to lose and today it was especially humiliating. “I demand a rematch.”
“Nope. You need collateral in order to play. I do have a suggestion though. You could bet with clothing.”
“Strip poker? You can’t be serious.”
“I am completely serious,” Dan answered with a devilish glint in his eye. He started dealing out the cards. “You in?”
So much for him giving up on getting her in bed, but Jenny eagerly took up the challenge. “Okay, but only if I can pull out of the game at any time.”
“It’s a deal.”
Jenny was pleasantly surprised when she beat his hand. “Since I’m the winner, I get to pick the piece of clothing,” she announced.
“Okay by me.”
“Your sweater.”
Dan kept a straight face as he pulled it over his head. Jenny couldn’t help gazing at his naked chest. She had only seen him shirtless from a distance once when she watched him play basketball outside Kelly’s apartment. His defined chest with blond curls was quite distracting, and she had to look away.
“Your turn to deal.”
Jenny looked down at the cards. Seeing his skin unnerved her. Jenny shuffled the cards and dealt them out. It seemed her luck had changed for good when she won the next hand too. “Your belt.”
“Interesting choice,” Dan replied, as he undid the buckle and whipped it out of the belt loops. The sound of the buckle hitting the floor made her blush. She was glad he couldn’t tell what she was thinking.
Dan dealt the next hand. Jenny won with a pair of queens. She whistled enthusiastically. “I am on a roll now, baby! Socks next.”
“Both?”
“Yep.”
He dutifully took off his socks, exposing the manly fur on his feet. Dan wiggled his toes for her benefit. She quickly dealt out the next hand and then stopped. Was he losing on purpose? Jenny raised her eyebrow and stared at him.
“What?”
“My sudden winning streak seems a little suspicious.”
“I see. You doubt your own card skills.”
Jenny puckered her lips in concentration. She finished dealing and let out a happy squeal when she saw her hand, totally forgetting to keep a poker face. Jenny laid down two aces in triumph and then gasped when Dan showed her a three of a kind. He grinned mischievously. “Take off your top.”
She shook her head. “I can’t.”
“Do not shirk on a bet, Jenny. It’s bad manners.”
In a quick move so she wouldn’t second-guess herself, Jenny whipped off her sweater. She was grateful that her bra hid her assets. Jenny looked over at the fire, not wanting to see the expression on Dan’s face.
“Nice. Not quite what I was expecting, but nice.”
Jenny glanced down at her chest and burned with mortification. She had forgotten she was wearing her ancient smiley face bra. It was her most comfortable intimate apparel, but definitely not her sexiest. Ryan never cared what she wore.
“Enough gawking. Just deal the cards.”
Dan chuckled and dealt the next hand. Jenny’s heart raced. She had three Jacks and laid them down with a whoop. Dan smiled and showed her a flush. “Bra.”
Jenny sputtered. “Not the bra. Let me take off my socks.”
“Nope. The bra that keeps smiling back at me must go.”
Jenny’s hands trembled as she unclasped the back and slowly let her favorite bra fall from her shoulders. Dan’s expression changed from amusement to adoration in the blink of an eye.

Blissfully Undone by Red Phoenix

Blissfully Undone, the compliation novel of the Blissful series is now on Amazon, B&N and Smashwords.

The Blissful Series started with a February snowstorm and some distant memories of mine that combined into Dan's seduction of Jenny. Menage a trois is a girl's dream come true and Jenny embraces it wholeheartedly.

Along with the incredible sex comes the emotional aspect that plays into threesomes. I wanted to show how two men could love one woman enough to share her.

Blissfully Undone:

First published as the popular 4-part eBook serial, Blissfully Undone is now available as a full-length novel.

Two couples plan a mountain getaway, but only Dan Hayes and Jenny Cole make it before the blizzard strikes. With tons of time on their hands and a natural attraction for one another, things start to heat up. Dan is an unusually creative lover. By the time the two are rescued, Jenny must make a choice--either way, hearts will suffer.

Jenny admits to her boyfriend, Ryan, that she has fallen in love with Dan. The pivotal moment defines the depth of Ryan's love when they move from being a couple to a true Ménage à trois. The sex is delicious, and the love she shares with both men divine, but there is a problem. Jenny betrayed Kelly, her best friend, when she fell in love with Dan. Now Kelly is hell-bent on destroying her at any cost. The threesome faces an emotional crossroads and the special bond they share is about to be severely tested.

The climax to this poignant journey of passion, love, and friendship ends where it all began...

Adult Material (18+)

Warning: This book contains sexually explicit content and scenes that some readers may find objectionable.

On the Fourteenth Day of Christmas Red Phoenix Gave to Me

The Conclusion of Amy's Journey to the Arms That Loooove Her...

I decided to have a little humorous fun at Amy's expense when I had her lose her memory because of  a falling mum. :) In this final story, all the men come back into her life. She must decide who is right for her, not based on memories - but her heart.

Excerpt from the short story Amy's Choice:
(Short Story is .99 on Amazon, B&N, Apple, and Smashwords. The entire series is available for only 4.99, click here)

Amy snorted. “Getting hit with a flowerpot is just plain embarrassing.” She blushed and looked away from him, noticing that her room was full of mums. “What the hell…”
The guy laughed good-naturedly. “Yeah, well it made the news and chrysanthemum retailers everywhere wanted to send their condolences and thank you. There has been huge discussion in the media about the worthiness of mums and sales have skyrocketed accordingly.”
“So, who are you anyway? A reporter?”
The man’s face fell. “What, you don’t know me?”
Amy bit her bottom lip. It was obvious he was someone she was supposed to know. “Are you my brother?” she ventured. The defeat in his eyes clearly meant he was not.
“Amy, it’s me, Brad.” He took her hand and kissed it gently.
She blushed. Oh, so you must be my boyfriend, she thought. From out of nowhere, the tears started to fall.
“What’s wrong? Are you feeling okay?”
She whimpered quietly, “I don’t remember you at all. What else don’t I remember?”
“Look, I’ll get the doctor. Don’t worry, Amy. Everything will be alright.” Brad disappeared out into the hallway.
Soon after he left, Amy heard another man’s voice outside her room. “What? She’s awake? Why didn’t anyone tell me?”
In walked a handsome fox with a mop of blond curls. “Amy! You are back among the living!” His smile was contagious. The man walked right up and wrapped his arms around her in a bear hug. Not knowing who he was, she could not return the embrace. “What’s wrong, Miss Amy?”
Miss Amy? What a strange way to address her… and he was acting as if they were close. Was he part of her family? She blurted, “Are you my brother?”
The same look the other guy gave her was reflected on this man’s face. She really needed to stop guessing. He laughed in disbelief. “Amy, what are you saying? You know who I am.”
The other man came in following closely behind the doctor. “She doesn’t know who you are, Troy. So stop pestering her.”
When Amy heard the name Troy, her heartbeat increased. There was something familiar and safe about that name. She looked at the blond, hoping his face would ring a bell. It didn’t.
The doctor told the two men to leave so he could examine her. Amy was desperate to piece together her past, but the doctor asked a string of unrelated questions. After he was finished questioning her, he said, “Miss Gardner, it is not unusual to have temporary memory loss after a serious concussion. You should start recalling things in the next day or two. There is always a possibility that it is more permanent, but there is no reason to think that at this point. Let’s assume the impact has jarred you a bit.” Even though Amy tried to hold back the tears, she started to cry. The doctor looked uncomfortable and stammered, “There’s nothing to be concerned about. Now tell me on a scale of one to ten, how severe is your headache?”
He successfully distracted Amy from her tears as she answered his question. “It only hurts when I lift my head, but when I do it’s a seven.”
“I’m not surprised. We’ll keep you here under observation for the next few days. By then we should have a better idea what’s going on.” He patted her arm stiffly and added, “Everything is going to be fine, Miss Gardner.”
When he left the room, the two men came back in. Amy was struck by how good looking both of them were. Was it possible they were both her boyfriends? “Who are you?” she asked the blond.
He smiled and made the motion of tipping an imaginary hat. “My name is Troy Evans. We met over a year ago because of my cousin Greg. Does the name Greg mean anything to you?”
Amy shook her head. “No, but I like your name.” She smiled shyly and added, “Troy is a good name.”
Both men shared a glance, communicating something silently and then Troy asked, “What did the doctor say? If you don’t mind me asking.”
“He thinks the accident caused temporary memory loss, but assures me I will get them back. I hope I do…” Amy felt the tears coming again.
“Amy, please don’t cry.” Troy came over and wrapped his arms around her again. She closed her eyes. Even though Amy didn’t remember him, Troy’s embrace felt safe and warm just like his name.
“Give her space,” Brad snapped. “She doesn’t even know who you are. You think she wants strangers hanging on her like that?”
Troy slowly pulled away, looking down at her. “Amy, you’ve got to remember me. You and I have had rousing good times together. I’d be happy to tell you about them if he,” Troy nodded at Brad, “would give us a moment alone.”
“I am not leaving Amy alone with a cad like you.”
“Amy never mentioned anyone named Brad and I was with her a week before the accident.”
Amy looked over at Brad again. He gazed at her with such intensity it made her stomach flutter. “Amy and I have a long history together. Longer than yours I can assure you.” Brad took her hand again and squeezed it gently. “Circumstances separated us, but that’s in the past.” He moved in close. “I’m here for you, Amy.”
His words had a calming effect. I’m here for you… Those were powerful words. “I appreciate that,” she said softly, staring into those heavenly green eyes.
